Internet Policy

To use a computer workstation, patrons must log in at the circulation desk. Usage will be based on a first- come first- served basis. Patrons are limited to one hour per day. Workstations are not available during the fifteen minutes prior to closing.

Use is limited to a maximum of two persons per workstation at a time. Patrons under 12 must be accompanied by an adult to access the internet.

If searching results in disruption of library services, or if patron behavior when using the internet becomes inappropriate for a library setting, the library reserves the right to end the session.

The internet computer equipment and software must be as installed and is for Internet only. Users may not add, delete, or modify the installed hardware or software. Patrons may not use their own software programs on the Library's workstations.

If any user abuses, misuses, or engages in any use of the computer equipment or software not authorized by the site, or introduces a virus, the user will be prohibited from using this service.

All users are liable for the cost of repair or replacement as needed if they permanently or temporarily damage any equipment or software.

Library staff members may assist patrons in accessing the internet; however training in computer usage is the responsibility of the patron.

The workstation will be used for educational and informational purposes only, not for unauthorized, illegal, or unethical purposes. You may not use the workstation for commercial activity or for political lobbying. You may not send, receive, or display text or graphics that may be construed as obscene by community standards. The Library Board of Trustees is the proper forum to determine the reasonableness of community standards to be adhered to at the Library.

Respect the privacy of others by not misrepresenting yourself as another user, by not attempting to modify or gain access to files, passwords, or data belonging to others; by not seeking unauthorized access to any computer system, or damaging or altering software components of any network or database.

There is no conversational cell phone use allowed in the Library or Library computer room. Patrons may not use their cell phones in conjunction with Library computers or their own laptops. Cell phones must be used in the foyer or outside.

The cost to print is 10 cents per page. Using your own paper does not change the price since it is the price of the laser cartridge that necessitates the per page charge. If you wish to use special paper to print, please secure permission from one of the library staff.

Information downloaded from the workstations may contain a virus and you should have virus checking software on your home computer. The Stone County Library is not responsible for damage done to a patron's computer or flash drive, or any loss of data, damage or liability that may occur from patron use of the Library's computers.

The Stone County Library makes no guarantees, either express of implied, with respect to the information available on the Internet, nor is the Stone County Library responsible for any user misuse of copyright or any other violation.
